There is a lack of commitment in this sector”.
His vibes about Bamboo Handicrafts is very positive he says “It’s a very important eco-friendly product and can replace the plastic”.

Added to this he also do trading of Handicrafts based products. Before pandemic he used to sell his products at Hyderabad, Kerala as well as different parts of the Country.

Debabrata Das is one of the famous State Awardees of Bamboo in Lay Artists of Udaipur, Tripura. He has done Bachelor of Arts as well as Bachelor of Music. Also, he has done Bachelor in Education. He is very much interested on Bamboo in Lay and can make any type of products with inlay. He also makes Musical Instruments from Bamboo as well as Bamboo Portrait, Bamboo Plates and many other items from Bamboo.
He had learnt these skills from “Krishnadhan Bhattacharjee”, one of the well known bamboos inlay artists from Udaipur. Now his plan is to transfer these skills to the other artisans to save this age old tradition. Also, he loves to do research on different bamboo inlay combination as well as innovative Musical Instruments from Bamboo. Manoj Debnath is from Bagabasa Village of Nalchar Block of Sepahijala Districts. He is a fantastic artisan with having matriculation qualification. His families main source of income was Bamboo based Handicrafts, he has learnt all these basic skills from his parents.
He always will to innovate the bamboo product which makes it different from other artisans. With having a matriculation from formal he has attended number of handicrafts based training program conducted by Government as well as from other agencies.
He is one of the well known artisans of Tripura who can do any design works. He says “Like all other people are looking for plantation of Rubber, I am looking for plantation of Bamboo”. He added now a day’s production of quality bamboo is decreasing rapidly, I have planted bamboo at three places and also looking to plant Bambusa Polymerta at some other places”. Bambusa Polymerta is one of the best quality bamboo can grew in Sepahijala districts.
He usually transfers the knowledge of different bamboo craft skill to different set of artisans. He also can do any type of design of bamboo like Bamboo Basket, Bamboo Jewellary, bamboo lamp shed, bamboo trey etc. He believes that “all of the people of India have to be skilled enough and tech savvy enough, so that we can compete with the cheaper bamboo handicrafts items from China”. He says “We need mix of both works in bamboo handicrafts with hands as well as with machineries but we need to make sure that we are making quality products”. Added to this, he says, “to feel this gap, he is ready to transfer the technology to the any artisans and new entrepreneur for making a competitive products. So, that we can sell that product at abroad as well”.

Subrata Das is an Engineer by Education but by passion he is a Social Entrepreneur cum Technological Service Provider in Bamboo Crafts in the State of Tripura. Popularly known as “Bamboo Man of Tripura” He is from Udaipur, Gomati and did his Bachelor of Technology in Bio-Engineering from NIT, Agartala and also got placed at Chennai as a Bio-Informatics Engineer. But something different was happening in his mind and after completion of his Engineering; he started worked in Bamboo crafts. To build the skills he attended number of training programs conducted by Bamboo & Cane Development Institute, Development of Commissioner- Handicrafts and other Government Agencies etc.
His interest on Bamboo crafts was increased when he used to work in ceiling the roof with foam. From, here he had started to thinking about Bamboo Craft. Later he had interacted with number of artisans who were involving in the Bamboo crafts. After interaction with the artisans he had decided to do something in this sector. During that period he had found out two problems one was innovative marketable products and second one was assured income for the artisans.
Now, his plan to prepare and make more than 5000 artisans in next three years through different capacity building and technology transfer training. His idea is to export as well as to collaborate with bigger company like Tata, Reliance etc. for eco-friendly products. But he says “Prior to the collaboration with corporate we should have enough skilled artisans who can prepare niche products. So, that I can talk and take orders from the Corporate”. He added, “It will be a win-win situation for both artisans as well as Entrepreneur or Trainer like me”. By his qualification he is also a very tech savvy person.
