IMPLEMENTING BAMBOO-BASED ENTREPRENEURSHIP & LIVELIHOOD DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME IN TRIPURA

About the Project

Tripura is rich in natural resources and biodiversity because of being a hilly region. However, it’s indigenous population witness unstable economic growth and stagnation due to complex problems such as geographical remoteness, geological instability, population pressure, labour migration, natural disasters, water scarcity, and many others. Due to these problems, people in this region follow a traditional pattern of livelihood based on agriculture and minor forest produce. Considering the problems highlighted above, The project, ‘Implementing Bamboo Based Entrepreneurship and Livelihood Development Programme’, under support of National Mission on Himalayan Studies (NMHS), Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Govt. of India was implemented by Entrepreneurship Development Instiute of India (EDII) with the objective of promoting innovative means of entrepreneurship promotion and livelihood development benefiting artisans in the bamboo product clusters in Tripura. Product specific entrepreneurship development programmes, entrepreneurship awareness camps, design development involving BDSPs, market linkages and branding were conducted successfully leading to new enterprise creation in the bamboo product sector. The outcomes were also reflected in upgradation of existing enterprises, productivity and quality improvement, income generation, product diversification and improved standard of living. The SPV- Nabadiganta Walefare Society created under the interventions has been handholding the entrepreneur created under the project through the TRIBAM online marketing platform for showcasing and marketing of their products and linking other B2B and B2C platforms.
